HORSE RIDING SAFARIS

Horseback safaris in the Okavango delta in Botswana in Africa - Randocheval / Absolu Voyage

The horse is an excellent ambassador with the wild fauna, you certainly noticed it in walk when you surprise roe deers and the other hares!

Imagine this nearness there where the nature is the most beautiful and the wildest, in the heart of Africa...

Your horse which steals in the grass of the savanna, your guide who scrutinizes the fresh tracks left in the sand of the river. Each one holds his breath because all the time, Africa can reserve a surprise: huge elephants who know so well how to merge in bushes, newborn zebra who likes hardly on his legs, leopard with eyes powdered with gold...

Safety during horse riding safaris in Africa

Yes, these images make dream but a hesitance retains you : what about the safety? Aren't we vulnerable on a horse which, in the nature, has the status of prey?

Horse riding safari in the Songimvelo Game reservein South Africa - Rhinoceros are numerous there - Randocheval / Absolu Voyages

Your guides are always equipped when potentially dangerous animals frequent neighborhood (photo on the left hand side, Steven, the guide of our safari to Songimvelo - South Africa)..

They know perfectly wild animals and they will teach you the behavior to adopt : Always stay behing the guide and keep the guide between you and animals, in front of herbivores let your horse graze so that he is also identified as herbivore, not to put his horse in front of animals because it is an attitude of provocation, remain quiet in front of wildcats knowing that leopards and cheetahs are too solitary and too small to attack a horse, and that our guides avoid the lions who are the only ones to be dangerous when they are grouped.

The horses which you will ride are too perfectly used to be next to the wild fauna and you will see them quiet in any circumstances, except when the guide decides that everybody has the right to let off stream in a fast gallop!

Our most spectacular safaris, combining the whole big African fauna and infinite landscapes, are in the Delta of Okavango, in Big Five in South Africa, in Laïkipia and in Masaï.

You can also choose a safari in a zone where from are absent two bigger suppliers of adrenalin: the elephants and the lions!

It is the case on the Wild Coast of South Africa and in Namibia (where rhinoceros are present all the same).

In Songimvelo, so rich in rhinoceros, the meetings with the elephants are little frequent and wildcats are absent.

To help you to choice your horse riding safari

A safari on horseback is often the experience of a life for every nature lover rider and enthusiast of strong sensations.

To help you in your choice, we collected in below the probability to see the main wild animals by horse during a safari.

WARNING, they are statistics, you will not be in a zoo, wild animals move in immense spaces! We indicate presence of lions, even if we try to avaid them.

The size of the reserve is also important : in a "small" reserve, the chances of moved closer meetings are bigger but you lose the infinite and wild spaces which you find in Okavango, to Laïkipia or in Masaï Mara.

Finally, the level of comfort of the tents of safaris style " Out of Africa " or lodges is a part of the magic atmosphere of these safaris, we thus indicate you our own evaluation!
